Bilingual Theatre Project

This month I have been documenting a new bilingual theatre project at the University of Waikato

I am documenting the process from concept to rehearsal to performance using both photography and film.

Equal Voices Arts are starting in rehearsal soon, to create a theatre production that will be created and performed using both New Zealand Sign Language and English. The performance will be accessible to both Deaf and hearing audiences.

The project is being facilitated by Dr. Laura Haughey and has been funded by a Faculty of Arts and Social Science Contestable Research Fund from the University of Waikato.

The project started with some taster 'Sign Theatre' workshops held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts, in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Deaf Aotearoa staff in Hamilton were instrumental in the set up of these workshops, with their invaluable support and guidance.

The performances will be held at the Playhouse Theatre on May 1st and May 2nd.
